This was our first experience in a log cabin. WOW! We loved having 2 decks to enjoy the surrounding views. Very romantic and cozy. Very quiet. Our son was playing / staying at Dreams Park and this apartment was perfect for us to bring him home for an evening so he could enjoy the lake too. The owner was VERY kind and courteous. Perfect location about 20 min. to dreams park, 10 minutes to the HOF. Nice place!
Drew, welcome to log home living! One of my favorite features of the Birds nest is the exposed log roofing rafters and beams...they create a feeling of security and warmth. I love spending time there during the winter...when the wind and snow are whipping, yet the radiant heat floor provide a toasting environment!!
I rented the Bird's Nest with the neighboring Treehouse in early April for a big group of friends - 14 of us in total - for a trip to Cooperstown to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame and Brewery Ommegang. The two homes (which are essentially connected) together were perfect for our group. The view of Ostego Lake was breathtaking. We had three people sleep in the Bird's Nest and 11 sleep in this house. I stayed in the neighboring Treehouse, but the members of my group who stayed at the Nest said they really enjoyed it. This house was clean and well-maintained. Bill, the owner of the house, left great instructions for where to find things in the house, etc. Bill was a pleasure to work with, always quick to respond, and gave great recommendations for transportation, food, and shopping around that area. Mel's at 22 was great for dinner. Ommegang was a blast - their lunch is great. We also did a tour and tasting. And the HOF is obviously amazing for any baseball fan. If I'm ever planning to be in Cooperstown again with either a large group or with just my wife, I would definitely rent this house on it's own or in tandem with the neighboring house.
We could not have asked for a better group of guests! Thanks so much for choosing our homes for your stay in Cooperstown. We truly hope you'll consider another stay should you plan a trip back to our upstate New York paradise!!
Very private and clean..... Close to Cooperstown about 10 minute drive. nice view of lake and within walking distance. .
Thanks for your kind words and Liz and I are happy you enjoyed your visit! We look forward to welcoming you back...perhaps during the summer or even the winter when you'll be surprised to see how different our area looks during the seasonal changes!
The Birds Nest was a perfect choice for our extended weekend visit to the Baseball Hall Of Fame. It was a surprise trip for my husband's 50th birthday. It's a short drive to town and provided all we needed for our weekend stay. We would love to return in the warmer months to take advantage of the lake access and views. We took our son to the nearby Glimmerglass park and he enjoyed the playground and we soaked in the wonderful view of Otsego Lake. Bill was very informative and resourceful and provided all of the local tourist spots and favorite restaurants. The Birds Nest was impeccably clean and we loved the heated floors! I definitely recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a nice, quiet getaway.
Our rural country location and lakeside location really does lend itself to a variety of seasonal activities. Many people find the summer months to be the prime time to visit. But the Fall with all the colors, and even the Winter when the lake is frozen and there's piles of snow...these can be the best times to enjoy our area's quiet and beauty.
We rented the Bird's Nest for a weekend getaway to Cooperstown and it was simply an amazing place! The beautiful setting on Otsego Lake was picturesque and we enjoyed just kicking back and watching the ducks swim by. It offered all of the seclusion for a romantic getaway, but was still just minutes to the Cooperstown festivities. Inside, the Bird's Nest was immaculate, cozy, and warm, with exquisite decor and possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. It was fully furnished with a kitchen so it had everything we needed for a nice relaxing weekend. We will definitely be returning to Cooperstown and will stay at the Bird's Nest again. Thank you Liz and Bill!!!
The wildlife on and around the lake is amazing! All types of ducks and geese make use of the lake...and its fascinating to watch the hawks and eagles as they go about their hunting and fishing. During the cooler months before the lake fully freezes, its not unusual to spot a mink, muskrat or beaver swimming along the shoreline. Sitting quietly at the shoreline, its not hard to day dream about life in the area 100 years ago!
We stayed at the Bird's nest during peak Autumn foliage season and had a nice time. The cottage was clean and well kept, and perfect for some quiet and relaxing time away from most action and noise (don't expect Internet or cellphone service). The grounds are beautiful, and literally right on Ostego Lake. The location is convenient to Cooperstown, Sharon Springs, and Glimmerglass state park and opera house. We'd definitely stay again if ever in the area.
Thank you for your nice comments! Being located in a pretty rural area it can be difficult to obtain cell service. We are fortunate to have line-of-sight to a Verizon cell tower in the distance and for non verizon subscribers we are happy to offer landline service. AND, the big news is that we now have full, unlimited high speed internet service! So, come on back and fire up your devices!
We rented the Bird's Nest for Memorial Day weekend and couldn't have been happier. We got great use out of the dock, the kayaks, and the balconies. The owner was super helpful in giving us directions and answering all of our questions before the trip. The apartment is in a great location that gave us the best of both worlds: peace and relaxation, with proximity to all the things we wanted to do while in Cooperstown. Would definitely rent again, and recommend to anyone.
Sometimes, small can be better! We decorated The Birds Nest with our guests needs in mind...all of the essentials set amongst the large diameter log beams and rafters...comfortable convenient and inviting. And we invite you to try it in the winter when the lake is frozen, the snow flying and the radiant floors keeping you warm and toasty!
We rented the Bird's Nest along with the Treehouse, Oneida and Cayuga for our daughter's wedding in Cooperstown. The Bird's Nest was perfect for my niece, her husband and two small children (who were flower girl and ring bearer). It provided them with a nice hideaway from all the activity in the Treehouse, but with all the same amenities. It had everything they needed! We all had a wonderful time in these magnificent homes. Thanks again Bill! We hope to be back soon.
"Hide-a-way"...a perfect description for our Birds Nest...whether as an artist/writer's retreat, a romantic couple's escape or a small family getaway...this is the place to hide away from day to day life, to unwind, recharge. Plan your escape to rejuvenate today!
We rented the tree house and the bird's nest for our wedding weekend in Cooperstown. Groomsmen and significant other stayed in the tree house and we stayed in the bird's nest. 13 people in all and we had tons of room in the house and plenty of parking for 7 vehicles. After the rehearsal dinner we enjoyed an evening of drinks on the deck. Friday morning we had breakfast in the cabin and found the kitchen stocked with everything we needed to cook a big meal. Saturday was dreary but we found the basement stocked with board games and foosball. This cabin met our every need. Favorite part of all was the private setting. Would highly recommend this to anyone considering it!
Cooperstown is becoming well known as a wedding destination and every year our homes are being discovered as perfect alternatives to the typical hotel experience. Lots of space. Room to gather. Private and exclusive. Bring your friends...Bring your family...take home memories to cherish for life!
my wife and I and another couple stayed on this property for six days and five nights, between the beautiful accommodations the sunsets the fire pits and that beautiful lake it was amazing. I would certainly return and check out his other beautiful properties on the lake
Our little Nest is large on comfort! And with direct access to the waterfront and lake...our guests vacation in style. Perfect for a weekend, or a week, to enjoy a bit of the diverse offerings of central New York!
My wife and I spent a June Friday to Sunday at the Bird's Nest, which is the smaller house just next to the main house. At the end of a road through the woods, the privacy you have at this property is fantastic. The private lakefront pier, which included kayaks, a canoe, is simply superb. The lake is clear and great to swim in, and is quite large, with tremendous views. We had breakfast on the deck overlooking the lake each morning, with birds chirping and a gentle breeze in the trees--spectacular. The Bird's Nest itself is a well designed and well kept small house which we greatly enjoyed. Good air conditioning unit! The landscaping is thoughtful and nicely done. Bill the owner was easily reachable, friendly and very helpful. We are fairly picky about accommodations, generally staying in high end, well reviewed B&B's or resorts, and this experience ranked up there with anything in recent memory. The Bird's Nest is a real standout for its value. Cooperstown itself is a gem of a town--well manicured with plenty to do in the nearby surroundings. This house is just a few minutes drive from it all, but sitting on the private pier on the lake, you feel miles away due to the unusually beautiful setting and privacy. A real "wow" experience.
Hotel and restaurant reviews are so critical to today's consumers. Same holds true for vacation rental homes. Yet, the large rental brokers provide NONE! Liz and I, along with our staff, work hard to deliver exceptional service and accommodations. And when one of guests takes the time to submit something like..."A real "wow" experience!"...it makes the hard work well worth the effort! Book your "wow experience" today!!
My wife and I had a totally enjoyable stay at The Bird's Nest. This cottage has everything a couple or small family could want...comfortable beds, 2 flat screen TV's, and an awesome lake view. We will be back!
Views..."the ability to see something" Reviews..."an evaluation or an analysis" We got lots of great views and reviews!! Come see for yourself...Book your getaway today!
Our kids were delighted to explore the snow covered wooded area on the property and we had many deer sightings during our stay. The home was cozy and comfortable, with stunning views and heated floors. Exactly as pictured. Homeowners were a delight to deal with, providing us with restaurant and shopping suggestions in advance of our trip. Cooperstown is very quiet in the off-season, so if you want to check out the baseball hall of fame without the long lines then plan a road trip for winter or early spring. The house was perfectly situated to town and close to the farmers museum, which has a fun maple syrup festival in March complete with a pancake breakfast. Ommegang Brewery is also nearby, with wonderful food and tastings, and the tour was great for the kids. We hope to return again soon!
The Bird's Nest is the perfect accommodation for a romantic getaway or a fun escape for a family of 4. During the winter and early spring, this is Liz's and my favorite property to stay in when we are in Cooperstown. The cottage's massive beams and comfy furnishings, along with those great views create an ambiance that can't be beat! The old adage, "Great things come in small packages" has never been more true! Call us today and plan your visit!
The listing description was absolutely accurate regarding the property and amenities. The pictures on the website were beautiful and when we arrived at the cabin we were not disappointed! My husband and I loved this spacious and beautiful cabin! There were wonderful lake and mountain views from the living area windows and from the spacious outdoor deck. The cabin itself was extremely neat, clean, well taken care off, and beautifully designed. The basement was spacious and serves as a fabulous game room! I would recommend this cabin to business associates, friends, and relatives! The owner was extrememly helpful and seems to have impeccable taste. We enjoyed hiking in Glimmerglass State Park...lake water is crystal clear! We went to the center of town and enjoyed The Fenimore Cooper Art Museum and just taking in all the beautiful homes, parks, and lake views. We hope we can visit again! :)
Our lake is quite literally crystal clear! Perfect for swimming, fishing, boating and kayaking during the warmer months. And during winter when the lake freezes over, it becomes a huge ice skating rink. Get a bon fire blazing in the fire pit and bring along your hot chocolate, wine, (or what have you) and explore the lake like most people never will!
Had a great time at the Bird's Nest! Rested up our first day, had a warming fire in the fire pit. Next day spent at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Two beautiful sunsets during our short stay. Highly recommend this gorgeous cottage on Otsego Lake. Owner quite helpful in assuring all was taken care of for our stay. Thank you !
That's what a great vacation is often all about...new experiences, some serious rest and relaxation... and many fine memories! Reserve your's now!
We could not have been happier with our stay at the birds nest. Both the accomodations and the location exceeded our expectations in every way. Pictures cannot do justice to the view of the lake from the deck and balcony, as well as when you're seated around the fire ring only feet from the shore. The detour that was in effect earlier in 2013 is open now, making Cooperstown a very short drive, and you're only 0.6 miles from the entrance to Glimmerglass State Park. We literally DID paddle across the lake to the park's beach and soaked up the view of Lake Otsego from a different angle. The Baseball Hall of Fame has been on my bucket lost and we decided to finally cross it off this year, and staying at this amazing little cottage tucked away on this gorgeous lake front made the trip better than I could have hoped for. Cooperstown itself is a fun little town to visit, and making your stay at this property will make the time you spend NOT sight seeing just as memorable as the rest of your trip.
The Bird's Nest is ideally located just a short drive to town but yet privately and quietly located on a beautiful lake. Radiant heated floors make this cottage a perfect fall or winter retreat...watch the snow swirl from the big comfy bed positioned just inside the lake-facing french doors. Read, relax, snuggle...
What a great place to spend time doing nothing, yet we did a lot. My wife and I fished from the dock, just caught some sun. we even made a fire in the fire pit, all this and we never left the place. I had to talk my wife into going to the Hall of Fame and Flying Creek Cider Mill, both were fun, but the best was hanging out at the Birds nest outside or inside. We had a blast. Thanks Bill for everything , hope to be back soon.
When I began construction of this property, the Bird's Nest was the first structure to be built. I commuted back and forth weekly from our home in NJ during the building process. While on-site and working on the Bird's Nest, I spent many nights sleeping in the cottage from the time it was weathered in right through completion. I recall thinking many times that there was no need to build the main house...this little cottage had it all! Who could ever want more? Well, looking back I believe I was right...this cottage makes for the perfect getaway. Give it a try...you'll love it!
Very well maintained place with a lot of charm and a great view of the lake.
Up the massive wood steps and through the glass entry door...you are surrounded by huge Douglas fir beams and posts. Looking out over the forested land and the beautiful lake from this special perch up in the trees...The Bird's Nest!
Spent a perfect weekend at the Nest. Scenic, peaceful, private - just the experience we were looking for. I'm ready for more morning coffee overlooking the lake! thanks!
It doesn't matter the time of year...spring, summer, winter or fall, a relaxing morning cup of steaming hot coffee or tea while taking in the views of the lake, the woods or watching some of the local wildlife through the french doors or the tall gable windows is always a perfect start to a Cooperstown vacation day!
My family and I recently stayed in the Lakeside Cottage. We were there for the Cooperstown baseball tournament. We also had 4 other families staying at the big house attached. The Cottage was perfect for our family of 4. We had lots of room and could make our own meals as well. The views of the lake are spectacular and we also went out on the lake in the provided conoe and kayaks. As far as proximatey to Cooperstown it was an easy 30 minute drive. I'd highly recommend staying here.
The Bird's Nest provides the main house guests some extra room and privacy. With it's fully equipped kitchen, flat screen TV's and full bath, the cottage makes a wonderful honeymoon location, private retreat or anniversary celebration destination! The recent severe weather (summer 2013) has damaged the lake road resulting in a detour route to Cooperstown. The road should be open by Fall 2013 and the direct route is 12 minutes to town and 20 minutes to Dreams Park.
